Rockies Rumors: Colorado Trying To Acquire Martin…

Read More: Martin Prado (3B – ATL), Seth Smith (RF – COL), Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Braves

According to MLB.com’s Thomas Harding, the Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves have been talking about a deal that would send outfielder Seth Smith to Atlanta for Martin Prado, though the Rockies likely would include a prospect in the deal as well. The Rockies have been frustrated in attempts to add starting pitching, Harding writes, so improving the situation at second base has become the top priority:

The Rockies’ main need is a durable starting pitcher, but they have shown no interest in dealing the multiple prospects that many teams require for such a deal. So adding another bat at second base, where the Rockies for now have a possible combination of former first-round Draft pick Chris Nelson and solid multi-position man Jonathan Herrera, has risen to the top of the pecking order.

The 27-year-old Prado hit .260/.302/.385 with the Braves in 2011.

Braves Not Offering Contracts To Moylan Or Conrad

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves are not offering a contract to right-hander Peter Moylan, who has been one of the team’s top relievers the last six years.

The 31-year-old Moylan has appeared in 80 or more games in three of the last five seasons. He missed most of last season because of back surgery before needing another surgery for a torn rotator cuff and labrum.

Moylan is 19-9 with a 2.60 ERA in his career.

The Braves also declined to offer a contract to utility infielder and pinch-hitter Brooks Conrad on Tuesday. He hit .223 with four homers and 13 RBIs last season.

The Braves have four arbitration-eligible players on their 40-man roster: right-hander Jair Jurrjens, left-hander Eric O’Flaherty, left fielder and infielder Martin Prado and center fielder Michael Bourn.

Tigers interested in Martin Prado and Maicer…

Maicer IzturisThe Detroit Tigers are looking to make some deals this offseason and have Atlanta Braves third baseman Martin Prado(notes) at the top of their list, according to Fox Sports.

Right behind Prado, though, is Los Angeles Angels infielder Maicer Izturis(notes), sources tell Fox, to help fill the crucial holes for Detroit: second base, third base and the leadoff spot.

The 31-year-old, switch-hitting Izturis “has filled all of those roles over an eight-year career,” Fox notes, but this season marked the first time in his career he played more than 120 games in a major-league season. Fox notes, though, that the Tigers have Ryan Raburn(notes), Brandon Inge(notes) and Don Kelly(notes) to share time with Izturis if he can’t play every game.

Next year is the final year of Izturis’ deal and he’s scheduled to make $3.8 million, the site notes. Last year, he hit .276 with 35 doubles and five homers in 122 games.

Colorado Rockies Interested In Martin Prado,…

Read More: Dan Uggla (2B – ATL), Martin Prado (3B – ATL), Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Braves

The Colorado Rockies don’t have an established second baseman or third baseman at the moment, so it shouldn’t be particularly surprising that the club is showing interest in the Atlanta Braves’ Martin Prado, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.

Prado, 28, was the Braves’ primary second baseman in 2010, but he’s seen time at third base and in left field since the club added Dan Uggla to fill that position in 2011. Prado slipped to a disappointing .260/.302/.385 line this year with Atlanta, but he was an above-average hitter and one of the league’s best second baseman the year before. Presumably, the Rockies are interested in a potentially resurgent Prado that could provide a major upgrade at second base.

The current Brave isn’t under contract yet for next season, but he’s arbitration-eligible, so his team can tender him a one-year contract for roughly $4.5 million based on his previous salaries and performance. He’s not the only second baseman that the Rockies have shown interest recently, so don’t expect the team to go into next year without adding some additional options at the position.

Report: Royals looking to land Braves P Jurrjens

The Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves have been in discussions about Braves’ starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens, but those talks stalled Friday, according to the Kansas City Star. Though Atlanta is willing to deal both Jurrjens and infielder Martin Prado, Kansas City is not willing to agree on which prospects will be sent off in exchange.

The Braves sought minor league outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Wil Myers for Prado and Jurrjens. Kansas City is not concerned with sending Cain, but Myers, 20, is a different story, the paper reported. He was recently chosen as the organization’s best prospect.

Jurrjens was 13-6 a year ago for Atlanta, with a 2.96 ERA. Prado struggled at the plate, reaching base at only a .302 clip. The acquisition of both players would boost the Royals’ payroll by approximately $10 million.

That’s all for today guys, i’ll be back to blog you tomorrow.
